Today, the CPL is proud to announce that it is returning to its hardcore gaming roots by selecting id Software's upcoming QUAKE 4® as the primary one-versus-one competition game for the 2006 World Series events. QUAKE 4 marks the return of id's trademark deathmatch-style multiplayer formula. Online gameplay action in QUAKE 4 is based on the speed, style and overall multiplayer feel found in the popular QUAKE III Arena, and allows gamers to compete in deathmatch, team deathmatch, capture-the-flag, and tournament modes. NOTE: If QUAKE 4 is released prior to the Winter Event 2005, the CPL will conduct a small qualifying tournament at that event. La noticia, que era muy esperada por muchos, confirmó los rumores que han circulado desde que en QuakeCON 2005, Angel Muñoz, CEO y fundador de CPL, fue personalmente a "hechar un vistazo" al demo de la cuarta iteración de Quake. Muñoz tuvo entonces la oportunidad de conversar con Todd Hollenshead, CEO de id Software y sentó las bases para una negociación. CPL y id Software no terminaron en buenas condiciones la última vez que hicieron una alianza. Quake III Arena fue el juego con el cual CPL alzó vuelo, sin embargo, luego de 3 años consecutivos de utilizarlo como juego principal, id Software reclamó un porcentaje de las ganancias que obtuviera CPL por el uso de la franquicia. Esta misma razón causó que WCG también retirara Quake III Arena como disciplina en el 2003. Sin embargo, parte de los reclamos que se hacían esperar si id Software aceptaba esta vez, es que Quake IV no estuviera sujeto a un contrato de exclusividad como lo ha sido PainKiller para el presente World Tour, pues People Can Fly otorgó los derechos de organización y cualquier torneo cuyo premio sea mayor a $2000 necesita del visto bueno de la CPL. Puesto que este no es el caso luego que se anunciaran los estatutos del acuerdo, podremos ver Quake IV en WCG, ESWC, GGL y Clan Base el año que viene. Fuente: CPL
